B3157 Tuesday 19th October 2010.
On the agenda were village gateways, and the final recommendations from the Project Team for the whole of the village.
We have been told that a representative from the Project team will come to the next PC meeting. Therefore I suggest that we go through the changes now and be formulating questions for when they come.
It was also mentioned by Sue Mitchell from Dorset that she would like us to come up with a design that we could place on our village name sign, (discuss cliff as likely design) Clare Staples has been contacted about getting the children involved although it will ultimately designed by an artist. So maybe we could just have ideas from the children rather than have them draw designs. We have two designs to come up with, one for the wooden frame (a simple design will be etched into the wood) and one for the sign. We have until November 22nd to come up with some ideas.
It must be noted that the plans for the village are still subject to some changes. And the whole thing must be looked at by the Safety Audit team before it can be signed off as completed and ready to go.
The work on the Gateways and Buff surfacing are due to start
in January 2011.
Gateways
The Gateways will be subtle and consistent throughout all the villages on the B3157.
The general principles for the Gateways are that two-way traffic will be maintained at all the gateways. Where possible the existing carriageway will be narrowed to 5.5m by widening the adjacent verges or footways.
Yellow backing boards will be removed from the speed limit signs. Speed limit sign mounting heights to be lowered where adequate visibility can be maintained.
Hourglass shaped patches of buff high psv Chinese bauxite grit surfacing will be applied at each of the gateways – patches to be 6m long along the road edges and 4m along the road centreline.
The Project team went through all the proposed changes
running throughout the village.
There will be no change in the speed limit! The Police do not enforce the 20mph limit, and the government are reviewing the effectiveness of these limits countrywide.
Sheila and myself are still lobbying for the speed limit going out of the village to be changed from 40 to 30 so that we, at the very least have a consistent speed limit throughout our village. I made this point several times at the meeting and have emailed AB about this. Yet to get an answer though!
Presentation
given by Project Team:
At detail two of the plan, the carriageway is in a bad state of repair and so this will be planned out and made good. There will be a shared surface 1.5m into the carriageway which will be buff coloured. The edge of the shared surface will be edged with appropriate kerbing. The engineers are trying to source enough blue kerbing to match existing but are not sure this is possible. (We actually do have some in the possession of the PC) The original plan discussed was to have parking bays at Barr Lane, not marked as this on the plan. Parking bays to be reinstated on the detailed drawing.
The crossing at the pub will be replaced, with dropped kerbs being put in.
The footway outside 90 and 91 will be at the same level as the carriageway and the carriageway will be narrowed to make it a give and take area by the use of back-to-back kerbs. There will be a wooden oak, removable bollard at each end of the building.
