Availability of Facilities for Community Events & Activities

The Village Hall has received funding for significant improvements, including works to enable the separate letting of the rear meeting rooms. In terms of lettings, the VH has recently lost some regular users and consequently about 30% of its income. The Library is due to be leased to the Parish Council (99 year lease) and run by the Friends of BB Library. Appropriate community use out of Library hours will be pursued. AGREE = 3

BB Primary School Board is reviewing its lettings policies including consideration of community use of the school hall. AGREE = 1

The Parish Council has deferred works to the Reading Room to enable its use for community activities to be considered as part of this review.

Are there sufficient facilities available for demand from users?

TV & Radio Reception

Digital switchover has resolved most TV reception problems, although areas of the Parish cannot receive Freeview and need Freesat (more expensive).

Many reported radio reception problems to do with poor receiving equipment. Analogue radio reception is largely acceptable and stations also available via Freeview/ Freesat.

Local Broadcasting

BBC had shelved Radio Dorset for want of funds. Decision this autumn on introducing part time Dorset Radio.

Lack of coherent / comprehensive news about whatÕs going on in the County.

Little regular W Dorset coverage on radio or TV stations.

Remaining (generally) intermittent TV reception problems are being pursued by DorBAG in conjunction with Offcom.

No cold calling to be extended?

The PC should offer the Home watch controller a 5 minute slot twice a year to update on any key developments on this and to see if there is anything it can do to help.

The PC should consider appointing someone as the villageÕs link with telephone, gas, electricity and water companies to ensure the smoothest running of these services for the village, and the early identification of any problem
