Report on Training Opportunities for the PC
Meeting on 6 July 2011
1. The DAPTC Spring 2011/12 Newsletter set out a range of training courses for Councillors run by the Dorset Training Partnership at modest costs. Additionally the DAPT Chief ExecutiveÕs circular for May 2011 sets out details of free NALC on-line training (see last page for details).
2. We have a small budget for training (£180 for the year) and I urge Councillors to review the courses available. If you any of the Dorset Training Partnership Courses are of interest/ likely to be of benefit to you or the PC (and preferably both), please contact the Parish Clerk to arrange attendance.

NALC – ON-LINE TRAINING
On Friday, 1 April as part of the National Training Strategy, NALC launched the first ever suite of e-learning courses aimed at supporting local councillors. The e-learning courses are a unique online one-stop shop for introductory training and development for local councillors.
Our contractors, Learning Pool have built us a Dynamic Learning Environment which basically houses the e-learning courses. This is essentially a website specially designed to house interactive learning and the address is www.ntselearning.co.uk Once you arrive, look to the right hand corner to create an account. Access to the DLE and to the e-learning is all free and whilst we ask everyone to create an account, there is no fee for using it.
There are currently 2 courses – one for people considering becoming a councillor and one for those recently elected (or wanting a refresh). This second course has five modules, based on the sections of the Good Councillors Guide, with a short quiz at the end of each section. Please sign up and have a go!
Please let Learning Pool support know if you are having problems with the site on:-
0845 543 6033 or on support@learningpool.com
Editors note:- When registering you will be asked to fill in a mandatory field headed ÒCommunity CouncilÓ – for town and parish councillors complete this box with your parish / town council name
